Storage and organization questions, answered plainly
Short answers here; the full reasoning lives in each guide.
Getting started
Where should I start organizing a cluttered home?
Reduce volume first. Pick one method from our decluttering guide, clear easy categories, then measure and plan storage.
Which decluttering method is best?
The one you will finish. KonMari suits intensive weekends, the container concept suits short sessions, and Swedish death cleaning suits gradual downsizing.
Bedrooms and wardrobes
How much clearance do I need for under-bed storage?
About 18 cm for rolling boxes or shallow drawers. Bed risers add 8–15 cm if the frame sits too low.
What height should wardrobe rails be?
Single rails sit around 170–180 cm. For double hanging, use roughly 200–210 cm and 100–105 cm. Details in the wardrobe guide.
Is it worth paying for fitted wardrobes?
In eaves, alcoves and long-term homes, often yes. Elsewhere, modular systems usually give better value.
Kitchen and garage
Are deep drawers better than base cupboards?
For most items, yes — full-extension drawers show everything from above without kneeling.
Pegboard or French cleat for the garage?
Pegboard for light, frequently rearranged tools; French cleats for heavy tools, shelves and cabinets. See the kitchen & garage guide.
Furniture and habits
Are wall beds safe?
Modern counterbalanced wall beds are safe when fixed to a structural wall and installed per the manufacturer's instructions.
How do I keep a home organized long term?
Landing spots for daily items, a one-in, one-out rule, a short daily reset and seasonal reviews.
